Clash of the Gods is a documentary series produced by the History Channel. The series takes a look on many of the characters of ancient Greek and Norse Mythology. The episodes cover different characters as Zeus, Hades, Hercules, Beowulf, Thor, and Hercules.
The series is much more exciting than a simple storytelling by scholars. In these hour-long episodes, myths are dramatized in a Hollywood like style that perhaps crosses the line of what a documentary should be. Nevertheless the series is quite enjoyable and gives good information
Based on Homer´s writings, this episode entitled “Odysseus: Curse of the Sea” is about the first part of Odysseus Journey. Odysseus, king of Ithaca, leaves his wife and son to fight in the Trojan War. After destroying Troy, he attempts to sail home, but has to face many challenges. After defeating a Cyclops on Sicily, the beast asks his father, Poseidon, to curse Odysseus.
New evidence will be analyzed to relate this myth to real facts of the ancient Greek world, in an attempt reveal the real story of Odysseus.
